The Chronicle is warning subscribers about fake notices asking them to pay inflated renewal fees, a scam that has targeted newspapers across the country. Some of the mailings are from "Associated Publishers Network" and offer a year's subscription to the "San Francisco Chronical" for $799.95, much higher than the usual rate.
