Bill McCammon, a former chief of Alameda County Fire Department and a one-time contender for the state Assembly, died Monday, according to the department. He was 61. McCammon led the Alameda County Fire Department for 13 years, where he implemented water rescue, a paramedic program and a hazardous materials response team to provide mutual aid to surrounding agencies.
